The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, met this morning with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Masahisa Sato.

During the hearing, both authorities discussed various issues on the bilateral agenda, such as cooperation, defense, science and technology, candidatures, and trade. In addition, the Chancellor thanked Japan for its invitation to our country to participate in the next G20 meeting, which will be held in Osaka. In this framework, they reiterated their defence of multilateralism, the strengthening of free trade and a rules-based multilateral trading system. In this regard, they exchanged information on the internal approval processes of the CPTPP.

This meeting is in addition to the meeting that the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera held with the Prime Minister Shinzō Abe in the framework of APEC, and the meeting that Minister Ampuero himself held previously with the Japanese Chancellor, Taro Kono.

Japan and Chile have been paired by more than 120 years of diplomatic relations, characterized by friendship and mutual respect and united by common values and interests that have led them to reach the category of strategic partners.
