The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Edgardo Riveros, together with the Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Ryabkov, chaired the IX Chile-Russian Federation Political Consultations meeting in Moscow.

During the course of the meeting, the main issues on the bilateral agenda were analysed, highlighting the positive relationship between the two countries and the mutual interest in making further progress in a political, commercial, cultural and cooperation dialogue in various fields.

In this matter, along with thanking the help given through the IL-76 plane (LYUSHIN) to fight the wild fires that affected our country in the summer of 2017, the possibility of strengthening cooperation in this area was analysed.

On the other hand, a special mention was made of the existing talks and agreements between both parties to negotiate and sign in the medium term, a Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EUE), led by Russia, which also includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. The signing of such a trade agreement will boost bilateral trade around the US$800 million mark, in a market that collectively represents more than 175 million consumers.

Finally, in the framework of these Political Consultations, the Undersecretary was invited to give a lecture on Chile's foreign policy, entitled "Chile and its relationship with the Latin American region, with special reference to the Pacific Alliance", which was held at the Russian Diplomatic Academy before a prominent audience of students, academics and national and foreign diplomats.
