The Government of Chile deeply regrets the railway accident that occurred yesterday in Spain in the vicinity of the train station of Santiago de Compostela, which has left a grim toll of deaths and injuries.

Along with expressing to the Spanish  authorities and people its deepest condolences for the victims of this painful disaster, the Government of Chile conveys its sympathy and solidarity to the families of victims and expresses its fervent wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured .

Faced with the disaster that saddens the Spanish people, President Sebastian Piñera has sent letters to HM the King and the President of the Government expressing his solidarity and condolences.

Although there is no information concerning Chilean victims to date, we have decided to send our Honorary Consul in La Coruña to Santiago de Compostela.
