Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero signs agreement between the Government of Chile and the International Organization for Migration

Wednesday, August 1, 2018

Today, Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero participated in the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Government of Chile and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The agreement is on the support service for visa management in Haiti and IOM's Head of Mission in Chile, Norberto Girón, also participated in today's ceremony.

This initiative allows IOM to support Chile in the process of implementing the family reunification visa by operating a Visa Assistance Centre in Port-au-Prince to support the work of the Consular Section of the Embassy of Chile in Haiti.

Although the agreement was formalized today, the Care Center was already operating in Port-au-Prince from the beginning of the application of the Family Reunification Visa.

During the ceremony, Minister Ampuero highlighted the long working relationship between Chile and IOM, which "has resulted in the formalization of a joint technical cooperation agenda to achieve better migration management in our country".

Regarding the signing of this agreement and the focus of attention, the Minister stressed that this allows for better service to visa applicants in that country.

"I would like to express our gratitude to the IOM Office in Chile and its regional offices in South and Central America, which enable us to provide this important and necessary service to support our consular management in Haiti and to make this migration an area of development for the people and, by extension, for our countries," he concluded.
