On his first day of office, President Donald Trump announced US withdrawal from the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA). On the decision, Foreign Minister Heraldo Muñoz stated, "it is a decision taken by the new administration".

The Minister added "Chile is not going to remain passive, our openness to the world will continue with those willing to keep this course and avoid protectionism. I think that in this we will be followed by many other countries".

The Secretary of State remembered that in the APEC reunion, held in Lima this weekend, Chile and Indonesia continued conversations for a Comprehensive Trade Agreement. "The next negotiations with Indonesia will be in February", he said.

Minister Muñoz added that the bilateral trade agreement with South Korea will be further developed. According to him "there is a new opportunity to enrich integration with countries like South Korea, our 4th major trade partner".

"Every country chooses the path they think is necessary. In an uncertain world, Chile is clear of the path to follow. More integration, more trade, more openness to the world, because these have made our country prosper. It has generated employment, it has reduced poverty, and has allowed us to expand our horizons. We will continue in this direction without a doubt" he concluded.
