Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with Minister for the Environment, Marcelo Mena, accompanied President Michelle Bachelet to a meeting with National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence and Pristine Seas Founder, Enric Sala, and Pristine Seas Director for Latin America, Alex Muñoz.

In the encounter, they discussed the importance of protecting the Chilean and world seas and ocean conservation. Sala congratulated the President and the Government of Chile for the creation of the Nazca-Desventuradas Marine Park.

Pristine Seas is a global marine conservation initiative. It has supported many leaders in the creation of many marine reserves around the world.

In October 2015, Minister Muñoz and Enric Sala subscribed to an Understanding Memorandum for the production and distribution of the Our Ocean Conference 2015. In that instance, Sala highlighted the commitment and leadership of Chile in ocean protection matters.
