The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, attended today together with the Chilean Agent before the International Court of Justice, Claudio Grossman, the Senate Relations Committee. The instance dealt with the reading of the judgment of the International Court of Justice which determined, by 12 votes to 3, that Chile has no obligation to negotiate a sovereign outlet to the Pacific Ocean with Bolivia.
Subsequently, the Chancellor and the Agent attended the Foreign Relations Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, where they also explained the details of The Hague judgment. There they were greeted with applause, and Agent Grossman was awarded a medal in recognition of his work.
In both instances, the Secretary of State highlighted the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the entire legal team that had been working on the case. He also gave special thanks to the former presidents and former foreign ministers, parliamentarians and political parties for their support, showing that for Chile international relations are a policy of the State and also of national unity around this case.
