Deputy Foreign Minister Edgardo Riveros received representatives of Czech Republic's Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy. The group of representatives was led by the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies Jaroslava Jermanová who is in Chile to attend several work meetings in order to exchange views and experiences regarding social policies.
During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Riveros highlighted the presence of the Committee as well as the role that parliamentary diplomacy plays in strengthening the bilateral relations between both countries. He also highlighted the importance of legislature in the consolidation of democracy.
On the occasion, the discussion was focused on bilateral affairs as well as different integration initiatives that are being discussed in different international forums, emphasizing that bilateralism is a fundamental part of this process. Special reference was made to the Pacific Alliance, mainly regarding the official candidacy of the Czech Republic to become an observer state within the organization.
In this regard, Deputy Foreign Minister Edgardo Riveros stated that our country is optimistic about the interest of the Czech Republic in obtaining the status of Observer State within the Pacific-Alliance which is an organization that aims to increase the economic bilateral relations regionally and globally, putting the emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region.
He also recalled that Chile will assume the Pro tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance on July 1st on the occasion of the Xl Presidential Summit that will take place in Puerto Varas. During Chile's Pro Tempore Presidential period, the emphasis will be put on giving a more active role to the countries which Chile shares most principles and objectives, established in the context of the Pacific Alliance.
The Czech Republic's Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies, Jaroslava Jermanová, thanked the Chilean authorities for their warm reception.
