The Chilean Embassy in Colombia has been informed of the regrettable accident that involved three vehicles in the Barranquilla-Cartagena de Indias highway, which occurred in the last few hours and affected at least nine fellow nationals.
The General Consul in Bogota, Manuel García-Reyes, is traveling to Cartagena de Indias. Before traveling to that city, Consul García- Reyes contacted the Colombian authorities and the victims through the Honorary Consul of Chile in that city, Araceli Morales, to provide mutual assistance to those affected, find out about their conditions, and streamline formalities to repatriate the bodies of the dead fellow nationals and the return of the injured when they are fit to travel.
On the instructions of Foreign Minister María Ángela Holguín, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contacted the Consulate General to provide its full support and all the necessary collaboration. The Chilean Embassy is especially grateful for this gesture.
The Embassy has also been in contact with different companies to request their support and collaboration, including Colmedica, which has instructed its medical staff to contact the injured for the corresponding medical assessment.
Furthermore, we have contacted LAN Colombia to request their collaboration so as to ensure the availability of seats for the transport of relatives and victims.
Both the Chilean Embassy in Colombia and the Foreign Ministry's General Directorate for Consular Affairs and Immigration and its highest authorities, are exhausting all efforts to ensure optimal medical attention for our fellow nationals.
The National Police of Colombia is working jointly with the Embassy to confirm the names of those injured and fatalities. The following information is available so far:
