Chile and France set a roadmap for bilateral relations during meeting of Presidents

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, accompanied the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, in a meeting with the French President, Emmanuel Macron, held at the Elysée Palace in Paris.

At the meeting, they agreed to deepen trade relations between Chile and the European Union, as well as to jointly promote the development of clean energy projects, with the objective of making Chile and France leaders in the promotion of a cleaner and more sustainable planet. They also discussed collaboration in the fields of defense and cybersecurity.

"I believe that this meeting marks a new road map in relations between Chile and France, with concrete objectives, dates, agreed paths and a purpose: to enable our country to develop more rapidly, more deeply, create more jobs, improve salaries, create more opportunities," said the President after the meeting.

"We think it was a very good visit to France. I'm happy with the meeting with President Macron, I think we agree on many issues and I know we have a lot to work on together", he concluded.

France is one of Chile's main trade allies in Europe. In 2017, bilateral trade amounted to US$ 2.181 billion. Chile's exports to the French market that year reached US$ 903 million, an increase of 10.8% compared to the previous year. The main export sector was the mining sector, where copper shipments of US$ 595 million stand out.

Today's day in Paris also included visits to the Station F incubator, the presentation of Chile's educational agenda to UNESCO's General Confederation and a meeting with Senate President Gerard Larcher.
