Chile and Chad established diplomatic relations

Wednesday, September 26, 2018

During the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, met with his Chadian counterpart, Moussa Faki Mahamat. At the meeting, the authorities signed the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

For years Chile has been strengthening its ties with Africa, so the establishment of diplomatic relations with Chad is key in this regard.

At the subregional level, Chad belongs to organizations such as the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the Commission of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) and the Bank of Central African States (BEAC). It is also an observer for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

It should be noted that the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Chad is also the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the executive and administrative machinery of the highest regional body in Africa, which reconciles and coordinates action towards the integration and development of the continent, keeping the dialogue open to explore possibilities for bilateral and multilateral collaboration
