Chancellor Ampuero attends the Congress and discusses The Hague with the foreign affairs committees of both chambers

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, held an intense day's work today in the National Congress. The Chancellor first attended a plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies. This was the first activity he carried out in the Legislative Branch in his capacity as Foreign Minister. "This is a very emotional moment for me as a Republican and a Democrat," he said

At the session, the agreement between Chile and the United States on the assignment of security officers on board aircraft was approved by 107 votes to 4. "Our government has set out to continue the good relations that have characterized Chile and the United States in recent decades. The agreement that is being presented for approval is precisely in line with this greater objective," said the Minister before the vote.

Subsequently, the Secretary of State attended the Foreign Affairs Committees of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, where he gave presentations on the defence of the Chilean legal team in recent Chilean oral arguments before the International Court in The Hague, in the case of "Obligation to Negotiate Access to the Pacific Ocean", and on other relevant matters of national foreign policy.
