Chancellor Ampuero arrives in Paraguay for the change of command and highlights "concrete, not rhetorical" integration

Tuesday, August 14, 2018

Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero arrived in Asunción, Paraguay, this afternoon to attend the inauguration of the new President of that country, Mario Abdo Benítez, on behalf of President Sebastián Piñera.

After arriving in the Paraguayan capital on Tuesday, Minister Ampuero met with his peers from Argentina, Jorge Faurie, and Uruguay, Rodolfo Nin. With them he addressed the bilateral agenda and the regional situation.

In addition, Chancellor Ampuero inaugurated the first office of Zofri S.A. abroad. Zofri S.A. is one of the most important companies in the north of Chile, with a strong presence in the macro-area that includes, in addition to our country, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Paraguay and the south of Brazil. It manages a system in which more than 2,000 companies with a turnover of more than US$ 8.3 billion in 2017 operate.

In this context, Paraguay is the second destination country for sales of companies from the Free Trade Zone of Iquique.

During the inauguration of the new office of this Chilean company in Paraguay, Minister Ampuero said that "this is concrete integration, not rhetoric".

In this regard, he highlighted that in addition to bilateral trade and the presence of Chilean companies in Paraguay, Chile is actively working to establish the bi-national corridor that will link Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and the ports of northern Chile. "We want to open up new opportunities for the benefit of our two countries and give a signal from Latin America when there is an international context overshadowed by protectionism," added the Foreign Minister.
