Now, those who need public documents abroad will not need to do an extensive paperwork to legalize their documents because today the Apostille Convention entered into force.

Without any additional costs, the paperwork chain will be replaced by one procedure. Without any additional costs, the paperwork chain will be replaced by one procedure. This will increase the quality of life of many Chileans and foreigners who will now save a lot of time and money.

"Today we strike bureaucracy", affirmed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, at the beginning of the implementation announcement of this convention. This "will allow Chile and 112 other countries to simplify their paperwork on the legalization of international documentation for it to be one procedure only instead of an infinite chain that people had to do in different Ministries and public services", he added.

Additional to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who led the coordination on this matter, the Ministries and public services that can now apostille public documents are the Ministry of Education, of Justice, and of Health, along with the Chilean Civil Registry and Identification Service. They can use this simplification in any part of Chile through their Regional Ministerial Secretariats (SEREMI) and other authorities to issue this kind of certifications.

Some of the many documents that will be apostilled in a simple procedure are study certificates, copies of court sentences, marriage certificates, criminal records, vaccination certificates, and medical prescriptions.

Minister Muñoz highlighted that "we are responding to people's demand: less paperwork, less moving around Ministries to legalize documents. It has been a long road but the Ministry of Foreign Affair and public services have been preparing themselves and training their workers as Chile is already part of this convention".
