Undersecretary of Foreign Relations, Edgardo Riveros, and Chilean Ambassador to Germany, Patricio Pradel, arrived at the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport earlier this evening to welcome the Federal President of the Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck.

This has kicked off the German President's state visit to Chile, which will last until July 14th and include an extensive schedule of activities.

Diplomatic relations between Chile and Germany date back to 1862 and there now exists a great affinity between the two nations on various multilateral and international issues. The last few years in particular have seen extraordinary dynamism between them regarding issues such as education, clean energies, investment, innovation and cooperation.

On this last point, it should be noted that Germany is Chile's main cooperation partner, with the two nations maintaining a wide and diverse portfolio of projects and instruments of technical and financial cooperation, both at the bilateral and triangular level in Latin America.
