Under Secretary (s) Skoknic participated in the seminar "Peace, Security and Women at the Academy: Opportunities and Challenges"

On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, the Seminar "Peace, Security and Women at the Academy: Opportunities and Challenges" was held at the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy, in order to comply with the Second National Action Plan which implements the 1325 Security Council Resolution. The activity was led by the 1325 Inter-Ministerial Table, composed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Women and Gender Equity and the Ministry of Interior and Public Security.

The Seminar began with welcoming remarks by the Minister for Women and Gender Equality, Claudia Pascual, and Ambassador Milenko Skoknic, Under Secretary (s) of Foreign Affairs, who stressed the importance of women in the field of peace and security, calling for reflection and research in this area, their progress and challenges, highlighting the role of women in the different phases of the conflict, and emphasizing the contribution that women can make to peace and security.

The activity took place in two panels, with the participation of representatives of the 1325 Interministerial Roundtable, and prominent researchers on the subject: Naval Captain (r) Omar Gutiérrez Valdebenito, from the Centre for Strategic Studies of the Navy, Andrea Lodeiro (ANEPE) and Pamela Villalobos (ECLAC).

The activity concluded with the launch of the 1st Essay Contest on "Peace, Security and Women", aimed at undergraduate and graduate students and academics, researchers, from civil society organizations, or centres of study, whether civilian or military, from the Armed Forces or from the Law and Order and Public Security.
