Last Wednesday July 17 the new offices of the Honorary Consulate of Chile were inaugurated in Philadelphia, whose jurisdiction corresponds to the states of Pennsylvania, Delaware and southern New Jersey.

The opening of these new facilities will benefit nearly 4 thousand fellow nationals, members of the Chilean community living in the area, who will have access to various consular procedural formalities.

The ceremony was held at the main entrance of the Bourse Building, where the new premises are located and was attended by the Governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Corbett ; the Acting Mayor of  Philadelphia, Alan Greenberg; the representative of the Chilean embassy in the U.S. Roberto Matus and the Honorary Consul, Benjamin Leavenworth . Also present was a delegation of the Chilean-North American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), which included high-level businesspeople from the energy sector. Similarly, a large number of members of the Chilean community and the board of the Chilean Committee for the Delaware Valley attended the inauguration, totaling nearly 300 attendees.

It should be noted that the premises of this consulate will also house the sixth office of ProChile in the United States.

For more than two decades (the Consulate began operating on January 3, 1988) this  representation,  in conjunction with AmCham, port authorities , state and local governments, senators and U.S. congressmen  have worked to maintain and increase not only commercial  relations but also cultural and political ones between the two regions.

Despite being a representation of an honorary kind, this Consulate offers a complete range of services to the community such as issuing of Passports/ Identity Cards, Visas, civil registry formalities (birth, marriage and death), authentication of signatures, special /general powers, powers of attorney, exit permit for minors, survivals, and legalizations, among others. In addition to providing services to the Chilean community, this Consulate offers services to companies, public entities and universities related to our country. This type of exchange is increasing because Chile is an important destination for investment capital in the region, exchange of students, teachers, scientific researchers   and government links.

The new offices are located at The Bourse Building, 111 S. Independence Mall East, Suite 785, Philadelphia, PA 19106
