The Ministry of Foreign Affairs joins the celebrations of "Gay Pride: March for the Pride of Being Yourself". On this day we commemorate the Stonewall Riots which took place the 28th of June of 1969 in New York, and which signified the beginning of a worldwide struggle to have the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersexual people acknowledged.

As President Michelle Bachelet pointed out, the Chilean Government renews its commitment to "keep working tirelessly to make our country a home for everyone, no matter how they dress, who they love or with which gender they identify themselves with".

Chile is a member of every multilateral endeavour that aims at securing the human rights of the LGBTI community, amongst which we can name the United Nations, the Organization of American States and other spaces of interregional concurrence and coordination. Our State Policies are characterised by their consistent support of the promotion and respect of human rights, driven by the recognition of human dignity. During the past month of June, Chile and Canada undertook the co-presidency of the Equal Rights Coalition (2017-2019) which has, as its main purpose, the mission of moving forward in the suppression of all kind of discrimination and violence against people because of their sexual orientation, identity and gender expression.
