Minister Muñoz and Under Secretary Riveros met with the General Director of the Habitat III Conference, Joan Clos

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, and the Under Secretary of the ministry, Edgardo Riveros, met today with the Executive Director of the ONU-HABITAT program and General Secretariat of the Habitat III Conference, Joan Clos. This conference will take place in Ecuador during the month of October and Chile will be represented by a delegation of the highest rank.

During the encounter, took place an analysis of current negotiation of the Draft Zero of the New Urbane Agenda, in the elaboration of which Chile has had a relevant participation through the Conference Bureau, representing Latin America and the Caribbean.

The meeting was preceded by the "The Urban Hub as a Tool for Development. The path to Habitat III" which took place on June 20th. This activity, organized by the Environment and Ocean Affairs Direction of the Chancellery and MINVU, included the participation of many representatives of the Government, the Civil Society, the Academic Community and the local governments. The opening ceremony was in charge of the General Director of External Policy, Ambassador Alfredo Labbe, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Paulina Saball. In the gathering, Joan Clos presented the main challenges of the urban agenda at a global level.

The Habitat III Conference is one of the most important milestone of the multilateral agenda of this year and it will focus on the future guidelines and politics in urban development subjects and their contribution to sustainable growth.
