Objective

The Directorate of Multilateral Policy is responsible for actively participating in the bodies of United Nations, the Organization of American States and in multilateral fora.

 

Functions

Conducting the relationship of Chile with the international organizations within its competence. As a result of the aforementioned function, it establishes its main links with the Missions of Chile to the United Nations and OAS, among others. It participates in the fora of a global and regional nature to:

  • Synergize the efforts of a middle-sized country  which is open to the world
  • Defend the priority interests of our country
  • Enhance the multilateral benchmark as the guiding space building an international order and seek the benefits of an increasingly globalized world
  • Conduct studies and analysis to recommend and advise national authorities on multilateral policy
  • Coordinate with other countries lines of multilateral action on common interests.

 

Chilean Foreign Policy in the Multilateral Field

Chile views multilateral policy as a whole. To this regard, we have joined the efforts made by international organizations in recent years aimed at:

  • Building a world of peace, based on the factors that make up a comprehensive collective security, such as the promotion and protection of human rights;Strengthening democracies; Fostering  economies that seek equitable economic development;Promoting environmental protection and the fight against transnational crime.
