The Government of Chile expresses its profound disapproval of the violent events that took place today against Venezuela's National Assembly and parliamentarians. It also urges the population to respect and safeguard the institutions that uphold the democratic system and the national coexistence in our brother nation. Likewise, Chile's Government rejects all kind of violence expressed against all Venezuelan Institutions.

Our Government reaffirms the urgent need of a believable, direct and productive dialogue between the government and the opposition.

The Government of Chile has approved, both individually and collectively, the conception of a democratic exit from Venezuela's current crisis, with full respect of the fundamental rights and rooted in an understanding between the main actors. Chile's Government will be available to cooperate with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in this sense.

Lastly, the Government of Chile supports the declarations of the National Prosecutor, Jorge Abbott, who alongside other regional prosecutors has expressed his deep concerns for the current situation of Venezuela's General Prosecutor, Luis Ortega Diaz, and has urged respect for the autonomy and independence of the prosecuting institution of this brother country.
